1998 Camry dome light - voltage goes up to 28V

I have a 1998 Camry that I have had to replace the dome light bulb every 1-2 months. I checked voltage. It goes around 27V to 28V. I think it's supposed to be around 13-14v. Any advice?

The integration relay is bad. It attaches to the back of the fuse junction block, left lower dash.
The part number has been updated several times I believe.

How can you get 28 volts out of a 12 volt system? The alternator puts out about 14. Sounds like you used an improper ground when measuring the voltage.

I thought that's strange too. But it does read 28V...

The only way there could be 28 volts going to the bulb is if the integration relay has a DC to DC converter built in. Does it? I can't see why it would but...and even if you had an improper ground, you can't get a higher voltage reading than what the source is delivering.

You either are checking the voltage incorrectly, or have your meter set at a wrong setting, or do not have a chassis ground and the meter is giving you false readings. What happens when you replace the bulb?

Another possibility is the meter is bad. Did you check the battery voltage at the battery terminals...then cross check to chassis ground?
