3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
so we have 2 camrys, a white 96 and a gold 95, and the paint on the 96 looks perfect, but the 95 is now silver on the roof and passenger side. Has anyone else experienced excessive fading of gold toyotas?
Considering the fact that paint actually has an expected lifespan of 7-10 years, it sounds like you have done very well. I have seen a lot of gold cars fade. It's usually really obvious when you look at the bumper covers.
The champaign/gold colour is very prone to fading (oxidising). White on the other hand outlasts pretty much every other colour out there. As Zembonez said, the summer sun takes it's toll. Unless you constantly have your car garaged or use a car cover in the day time, it's inevitably going to fade at some point.

the paint isn't fading, the issue is with the clear coat peeling away from lack of washing and waxing and exposure to the elements. once the clear is gone, the paint fades faster than you can imagine. common on any base coat/clear coat vehicle.
Yep, my 94 Camry has several different shades of gold on it too. I had to have the right front fender and front bupper painted. You should see the difference. The rest of the car has varying shades of gold.
Mine is starting to oxidize a little on the bars that run up along the back door and windshield. I guess I'll have to get some rubbing compound and try to remove it.
Gold does seem to fade worse than other colours. I know on mine, the touch up paint is way off, darker than what's on the car. I also bought a spray can of dupli-color to repair the scuffs on the bumpers, it doesn't match well at all. I had a paint shop that puts paint in spray cans do a match from the gas filler door, they did a nice job it is nearly impossible to see where I blended the paint.

The paint on my 2001 still looks almost good as new, so it is possible to preserve it. This photo is from August after waxing.
