Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Ok so i have been scoring the internet trying to find answers for this but i cant get a solid answer i know it can be done but i don't know exactly everything i need i have a 97 Camry 5sfe and i want to put a low boost turbo on it something like 8-10 psi i know it would probably be better to drop another engine in their or better off buying a different car but i actually like the way this car looks so i want to stick with the same engine all i want to know what exactly i need for the build is and where exactly i can find all the parts if anybody has already accomplished this feet please let me know i would appreciate it so much
You will also need a bunch of other crap, such as programmable ECM, bigger injectors, turbo manifold, turbo, oil lines, Different map sensor, Different clutch (might as well change the flywheel too), bigger exhaust past the turbo, turbo piping and intercooler, etc..
Good luck on your turbo camry and let us know how you make out
3s, and 5s motors are the same GTE means performance head turbo electronic fuel injection, FE economic head electronic fuel injection.
So parts form the 3s will fit on the 5s, since they are technically the same motor, different displacement. The 5S can work with low boost 6-8, 10 can be pushing it. 6gc.net has lots of info, search pressure2 ( i think thats hes s/n ) on his 5SFTE build. Either way you'll have to upgrade your fuel pump and injectors for safety concerns. So for your build, I'd say buy trd4lifes 5S turbo upgrade. Definitely safer route out. But you also can get a 3SGTE manifold, 3SGTE MAP Sensor, CT26 turbo, custom piping, upgraded injectors, and fuel pump. Then you need to find a location to feed oil to your turbo, and a 3sgte oil pan. But there are many different routes you can take. I've been researching for 3 years now, and I already have my 5SFTE in mind, now the costly part is getting the parts for the build. Best of luck. Keep us updated.

I've heard that Burien Toyota kit is utter balls.
If you can find any old pics of this kit, you can see why it's shitty.
The intake piping runs over the engine drastically increasing the chance of heatsoak. I've read a few people blowing their motors using that kit. If anything, I would get the essentials from Gabe and have him fabricate something different to address that issue.
That is the major thing I corrected in my intercooler setup that I'm selling.
First of all I just want to thank everyone for there help on this matter it much apprecited second of all I wanted to know do I have to rebuild my engine to install this turbo if I I'm gonna run it on such a small boost and also are these burien turbos any good I was looking at some of them and it looks like they decrease all the power http://www.meisners.net/camry/ this guy installed one and it looks like even after he rebuilt the eninge he didn't gain any performance so if thats tru I'm I going the wrong route turboing it and should instead look more towards supercharging it instead
good luck finding a supercharger for the 5sfe. lol
If I were going to put a turbo on my 5sfe, and wanted to run low boost, I would at least change the Connecting rods out with aftermarket ones and have the crank machined. The 5sfe OEM Connecting rod bolts are really tiny.
