Question To anyone who's replaced their speakers/head unit on their '97-'01 Camry

Hey guys, I'm looking to replace the (stock) front speakers on my 1997 Camry XLE. I know how to take the door off, but I want to know what kind of wiring harness adapter I need. Can it be any wiring harness adapter? If any of you have replaced them yourselves, what kind of wiring harness adapter did you need? Or if any of you guys can confirm a certain wiring harness adapter that you bought that worked, that would be great.

I also plan on swapping out the stock head unit myself with an aftermarket one. Will I also need a wiring harness for that? If so, what kind will I need? Does it have to be specific to a '97-'01 Camry? Do head units come with wiring harness adapters in the box?

Thanks!

EDIT: My Camry came with the upgraded stock Harman Kardon speakers if that matters. I don't know if they had the same or different connectors then the regular speakers. Also, the stock head unit was the Radio/Cassette/CD player one.

Speakers only use two wires - positive and negative. What I did was just used a soldering gun and de-sodered the old speakers, and then re-sodered the wires onto the new speakers.
Head units generally come with a harness, and then you cut the old harness off and connect the wires to the wires coming out of the new harness.

get a harness adapter and 2 packs of crimp caps for very easy and fast installation of head unit. Metra or Scosche make the adapter, there is just one model for all 87+ camry/solara which fits all toyotas like this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Scosche+...A02B&cp=1&lp=1

you can get them from crutchfield or best buy.

depending on your current system you may have an amplifier plug for head unit at the back of the deck, but generally there should be an amp bypass plug below it.

you really want to get an amp bypass harness adapter. stock amp sucks, don't try to use it (even with correct adapter for it) as it will work very poorly with new head unit. instead use the new bult-in amp in the head unit

Do you have an aftermarket headunit? If not you will need an Line Out Converter to tap into the speaker wires to get the RCAs for the amp.

when i put my Double Din in my car i had to purchase a harness, i got it from best buy for like $20.

With my sub and amp that I have I bought an amp wiring kit that brings everything you will need. My advice used a 0 Gauge wiring kit. I had a 4 gauge in the car however I kept getting power surges from the battery and the fuse kept popping. Also the cables are thicker and can handle more power depending on how many watts you plan on having. You can find this on ebay for about 40-60. I can definitely tell a difference in the quality of my sound. Just for a reference, I'm running 1-JL W6 and a JL 500/1.

So i'm guessing the third wiring harness is for the factory amp? The one on the right hand side?

Also, i noticed on the factory 'rear speaker harness'(the one to the very left) that there's an extra pair of wires on it. Any ideas as to what that'd be for? I was thinking the factory tweeters, but shouldn't there be another pair somewhere?

I haven't disconnect the harness to get a good look because i'm not 100% certain of the code and don't want to lose my radio before i install the new head unit.

This is the harness i have purchased:http://www.aerpro.com/list.php?pcode...MODEL&cat_sno=

Can i still use the above harness or do I actually need this one since i have the factory amp? http://www.aerpro.com/list.php?pcode...OYOTA&cat_sno=
