4th Generation What should i check next P0500 code

I just finished a tranny swap on a 1998 camry. Before the speedo was working fine, after it will work until the first or second shift and then drop to 0 and throw the code p0500. I swapped the old VSS onto the new(junkyard used) transmission and no change. I checked the fuses under the dash and they were good. Sometimes when I wiggle the wires leading to the vss it will work for a moment but then stop again. I'm thinking it might be the wiring but I have no clue how to test them.

Also whenever I pull the VSS it seems pressurized in the differential, there is a solid "thump" air pressure noise when I pull it out.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Check the wires. I mean eyeball the wire i have the same problem when I swap my tranny. I saw the wire going to Speed sensor got slit. Fix that by cut and plug just to see if thats really the problem and yes it is. But then again it gave me the code. I took the sensor of my old tranny and used it then it works fine.

The wires look fine, I noticed today though that there seems to be oil leaking on the connector somehow and I wonder if this is impeding the signal

Fixed it, found the wiring up against what I think is an EGR tube and it was melting through the wires. Taped it up and rerouted them and it is fine now...
