446 code-whats parts to fix?

98 2.2L 246000 miles.

check engine light coming on over the last month. code is 446. Was hoping it was the gas cap so I replaced it. It was not. I have a code reader OBDII scan tool and erase the code when it pops up. It comes back after about 4 days of driving each time. So, something is not right.

Do not feel like replacing the charcoal canister and all thats with that if not necessary. I do not have to have it emmisions tested till december of 2112, so I can get away with leaving it like it is maybe with just a little loss of gas milage, but I like to fix stuff as it comes up.

I am ordering belts for 3 cars this week from rockauto.com. I was wondering if there is a likely culprit to this 446 code that I could order a new part along with the belts and possibly save on shipping by just placing one order.

Basically.......for the 446 code.....what do I start replacing and in what order till I can get the code to stay away?

Thanks!

Is it OBDII code P0446?

This thread will help solve the problem. I had to replace it too. The part is called an EVAP VSV (vacuum switching valve). There are three on the Camry so be sure to get the one for the EVAP system. Unfortunately, it sometimes have to be brought with the charcoal canister.
DIY : P0446 Charcoal canister VSV replacement

There are two different types on my Gen4 V6 so may be the same for I4. You may want to check which one of the 3 may be defective first by checking the resistance across the two leads. If it reads between 33-36 ohms, then that VSV is fine, otherwise it needs to be replaced. On mine, one was a complete open circuit while another one was about 31-ohms, once they were replaced, the P0446 code went away.

Here's the difference between the two VSV, note the different tabs on the mounts.
