3rd Generation Heating problems

Hey guys,

I have a problem with my Camry...

At idle, i have poor heat but when i drive on the highway or at a constant speed the heat is good.

I recently did the heater core, timing belt, water pump, thermostat and radiator...

I have no clue what to do anymore....

Anyone can help me please???

Are you using recirc? How's your blower/fan working? I'm wondering if you're not getting good airflow at idle but on the hiway the outside air is forcing more airflow thru the core.

Did you "burp" the air out of the system? Did you use a thermostat with a jiggle valve and is it in the correct position?

Sounds like a flow volume problem. How old is the water pump and have you kept up on coolant maintenance?

Sorry, you did say in the original post that the WP was new. Does this vehicle have a water valve to regulate cabin heat?

I wondered about the valve as well but why would it react differently at different speeds?

How about a faulty blend door? If you are getting outside air directly in the cabin instead of through the heater core, heat will suck.

Well if it's restricted then a higher WP speed will create a higher flow across the valve - in theory, and provide more hot water to the core. Anyway, wouldn't hurt to check if it's opening fully.

I have the exact same problem... New thermostat wth antifreeze and temp gauge right in the middle as well, and control valve moves like it should. I'm thinking flow too, but what would restrict it? I always assumed a waterpump either worked or leaked. Cud the impeller wear out?

Usually not (at least not before the shaft seal) if you've kept the coolant in good shape.

Did you install the thermostat correctly (with the little hole at the top; or like the previous thermostat was in there prior)?
