3rd Generation 1994 Camry 5SFE - timing belt can't get mount off

Hi Guys,

I've started my 5SFE Gen 3 timing belt job this evening. I got as far as taking the aluminium engine mount off - the one that the dog-bone bolts to.

I got the top bolt off with some hard work - I come to to the lower two and no joy. I end up cutting my hand to ribbons trying to use some box wrenches. I think I possibly moved the bolt a mm or so. I soaked the two bolts in WD-40 in some hope that'll it work.

I hate toyota for using steel bolts in aluminium

Any ideas? I can't get a socket in there and the wrench just keeps falling off and in the process I cut my hands to ribbons on the bracket.

some people say pbblaster is better than wd40, so give it a try (soak for couple of hours). On Gen 4,you can use a socket (as i did on my tb change), just have to wiggle it a little. I saw some very small width sockets at harbor freight, so you may check there to see if the smaller socket width can be useful. If you are using wrenches, you have to daisy chain them or use a long pipe to get more leverage.

Tried daisy chaining but can't get the angles right. Will try and find a smaller width socket to get down in there with. Why didn't toyota put a hole in the car body at that point ot get a socket in.

Excellent point! I think you'll have more success if you use a pipe extender for the box end wrench. You will probably have to cut the open side off to fit a pipe over the handle. I'd buy a good quality (NAPA will work) 6 point wrench so as not to round over the hex head on the bolt, if that happens you are screwed. ++ for PB Blaster. WD-40 is not a lubricant or penetrating oil, it is a (W)ater (D)ispersant.

Ended up dropping the wrench down instead of up and bracing a pry bar against something immovable and using brute force. The bolts eventually came out.

I replaced the oil pump o-ring but forgot the oil pump shaft seal. How can I take the sprocket off the oil pump and replace the seal without taking the bloody pump off again?
