PCV Valve Question

I did the valve cover gasket replacement today, and while doing so, broke the PCV valve. I went to the store to get a new one, and slapped it on (hopefully correctly). Is there anything I need to know about installing the PCV valve onto the valve cover?



Also, here is a picture of the old PCV value. What I'm wondering though, when all was said and done, I found this little spring, and I'm not sure if it came off the old PCV valve or the new one. I kept it in the box for the old one, not knowing what to do with it. Any ideas?

I'm guessing that spring fell out of the old one based on it's color, and the broken tube let it fall out, so I'm less worried now.

Here is how dirty the old one was. I hadn't ever replaced it.

That's one dirty valve! Yes the spring came out of the old broken PCV valve, so, no worries!

So what kind of noticeable differences can I expect to see/feel/hear with this?

None really. Unless the old one was sticking and not rattling its not gonna make a difference.

Did you replace the grommet? Those get brittle and seal poorly with age.
