Lightbulb 1992 Camry transmission problems

I have a 1992 v6 camry with 192k. Just last night while I was driving it started having some problems. I would give it gas and the RPMs would climb, but it wasn't moving normally. Like for the amount of gas I would give, and as high as the rpms were I should have been moving much faster than what it was. There was also a shudder. The rpms would be around 3k or so and id barely be accelerating.

I am thinking it is a transmission problem, but is it torque converter? or is it something inside the transmission?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Corey.

If its an automatic then its probably starting to die. Drop the pan and inspect. Easiest thing to do to make it longer is to drain, and then refill with lucas transmission fix. Its really thick and it will help it build some more pressure and not slip.

No dont get it rebuild it yet. That's too drastic move. Drain and fill first. Check for check engine light or OD flashing. I think you might be having only selonoid problem. Thats the same with my car.... Removing your transmission already cost you $275. Another cost putting it back.

at a transmission shop, they will quote you $1500 to $1800. You go to a small shop (might find them on craigslist), $1000 warranty some 30 days up to one year. You can tell if they are legit when there are alot of cars in the shop. Prices in No Cal.

With the pan off for the fluid change it would be a good idea to remove and clean solenoids #1 and 2. One should have a black wire and one has a white wire. Probably don't want to mix them up. Very easy to remove. I just swirled mine around in clean fluid and operated it (only one was sticking and I didn't have further problems but it might have been wise to have done both.) Been a while but I think the air compressor had to be set to under 60 psi. Using a blower nozzle with the rubber tip I pressed it in the hole on the end of the solenoid. With negative 12vdc to the case and positive touched briefly to the wire, the air would be directed out thru the surrounding little holes. (Wear protective goggles or other appropriate protection.) At first mine was very sluggish but soon snapped loudly and quickly. Reinstalled and didn't have any more problems. But I only dove the car another 40-50K miles.

Nice to know you have it resolved. And that's not a bad price and warranty either. Merry Christmas!
