Help needed in fixing error code P0773

Hi

I have a Toyota Camry 97, V6 with 153,000 miles on it. Every thing runs fine but yesterday night Check engine light started showing up so I got it checked and it was P0773 error "Shift Solenoid E Electrical"

Got it checked at Toyota service center, Each Solenoid is checked and they are all perfect. Then they checked resistance from ECU Connector SL to ground measured: 256 0HMS with Key ON and 560 OHMS with key off. Which they told is with in specified range but still recommended the ECU and rechecking.

Told me it will cost $1900, What should I do??

Is it really worth it to spend that much if I bought it for $3000 and its running fine. If I keep driving with this error will it make it more worst?? Plz help.

The first thing you need to do is get away from the dealer. Find some independent mechanic to help you. What exactly did the dealer tell you that needs replacement?

If the car is running and shifting ok I would just drive it as is with the check engine light on. If you need to actually replace the ECM I would find a local salvage yard and get one there. You will pay 4 times what a part is worth at the dealer.
There are some really sharp people on this site, maybe one will help out with another answer.

Ya the car is running fine and shifting is also good, So lets say if I drive this car with engine light ON- So will that be adding any more problems to car like because of this error is there a change that some thing else might mess up??

How much do you think ECU will cost me if I buy it myself?

I use "just answer.com" for serious toyota repair questions. There is a guy goes by "DJ" and is a 30 year ASE master mechanic. He has really helped me out with trans problems. You need a credit card to use it. As I see it, if there is no slippage and gears are shifting when they should, I do not feel leaving the check engine light on will cause you any troubles. For 96 and newer toyota, most any parts house can read the computer codes for you. I could not guess what a ECM will cost you, just call around. I would try the auto salvage yards.
