3rd Generation 92 6 Cyl Wont start after head gasket install

1992 Camry 6 Cyl 3VZ-FE motor. Head gasket went bad on the front or left bank of cylinders. before teardown i thought i set the engine for TDC both markings on the camshafts were aligned with the back cover. i tore apart the front bank of cylinders, took pictures of where the markings were on the camshaft. (directly next to each other, in the middle) I did not move anything. assembled it back aligning up the camshaft as it came out. assembled the rest, cranked over the engine, no go After reading some more on it, i might not have had TDC of Cyl 1, (Guess i thought if nothing changed it would work) I have not put a timing light to it yet, going to do that tonight. Any thoughts from anybody? I am getting spark and fuel.

Thanks in advance

Double check the timing belt and sprocket markings first. If you haven't touched the distributor you shouldn't need a timing light.

I havent touched the distributor. and how would the timing belt make a difference. If the notches on the camshaft sprockets line up with the markings on the back timing belt cover and the notch on the crankshaft pulley lines up with the 0 degree mark. I assume this is at TDC. But i very well could be wrong
Thanks

Were the marks rechecked after 2 revolutions? Yes, that's how TDC is checked. Some members experience the same thing, went back in and the teeth were off. After they corrected it the engine fired right up.

If they did line up then check wiring (such as the crank sensor or other connectors) that you might have disconnected while working.

After rechecking again, I am off about an inch. So, back to getting the belt off. Thanks
