3rd Generation Noob head unit install question

I just bought a double din pioneer headunt for my camry. I know how to take dash apart and everything. But I'm confused about the wiring. It came with the pioneer harness and a free toyota camry harness. Do i just match the wires on these two harnesses together and connect them? And there is a parking brake wire that I assume attaches to the parking brake so I can watch dvds when the car is parked how does I connect that to the parking brake?

Yup just attach the wires color to color and plug the harness in to the OEM harness. The parking brake wire will be a more involved process, you'll need to run the wire behind the radio and down past the shifter. Then take the center console off and locate the parking brake wire (just one wire plugged into a sensor at the back of the handle). Then just tap into that wire.

Sounds simple enough. Do you have any idea how to remove the center console? Links would be greatly apperciated I dont really want to break anything.

I know this is illegal in some area's but I'm going to pretend its legal where you are. Run the ebrake wire to a toggle switch on the dash and forget the ebrake all together. Its simplifies life alot! Run the other side of the toggle swith to a ground. To keep things legal, dont watch dvds while driving. this mod would allow that to happen.

That way sounds alot easier. So basicly I get a toggle swith connect the e brake wire from the hu to one end on the switch and take another wire and ground it to the other end of the toggle switch? I like this way. Do I just need to hit the toggle switch when ever I want to have it on while driving? And also what if I dont connect the wire at all? Will the video playback not work at all?

If you hit the toggle switch on while driving, the dvd player will think the ebrake is on (like your parked) and you can have movies playing. The unit will play music regardless of the ebrake (toggle switch) being on or not.Its handy when you have a chick in the car and looks good to your friends when your touring, but seriously I paid a 6 bill fine when i had mine on and a cop pulled up next to me at an intersection. Not worth the trouble bro.

If you dont hook up the ebrake wire at all, it probably flash "Please apply Ebrake" on the screen everytime you try to watch a dvd. so you have to wire up the ebrake connection no matter what.

Yeah it would look pretty pimp while driving. My windows are pretty dark but I guess you might still be able to see while driving or stopped. I think im going to just connect it to the ebrake. Its not worth paying all those c notes. Do you know if its just one wire connected to the ebrake? Or is it multiple? And if its more then on wire, is it the ground wire im splicing into?

I assume its a single wire for the ebrake (JVC,Clarion and jensen are anyway). The toggle switch is the way to go, if you dont want to tear out your center console. Just leave it off when you cruise.

Oh i meant to say is the wiring for the ebrake one wire or is it multiple? The ebrake coming out of the head unit is only one long wire. I know that. If I do chose the toggle switch since im being lazy do I have switch it on and off everytime like ive seen on some videos on youtube? Or can I just leave it in the on position all the time?

The E brake has one wire. When the switch is in the On position the DVD will work, when you turn it off it will immediately disable the DVD player. So yes you have to toggle it on and off.

Oh ok I thought I could just leave the toggle switch in the on position all the time and have the ability to watch dvds at anytime.

"just use a 5 wire relay. 86 and 87 to ground. 85 to remote and 30 to parking break input (lt. green wire)

you cant just ground the green wire. it needs a delay which they relay will provide."

I found this on some other fourm. You take a bosch 5 pin relay and connect the wires to each pin. Does anyone know if the remote wire gets spliced into and another wire is attached to run from the spliced remote wire to the relay. Or do you just take the remote wire and connect it to the relay not the harness?
