1998 Camry, lost the remote

Hello,

I recently lost the remote to my camry and if I try to use the factory key to unlock it the alarm will go off. Is there any way to somehow disable the alarm once I get in? I heard that I might be able to use the valet switch to disable it? If so, where is it and how do I activate that switch? Thanks

oh then nevermind. On my Aftermarket security system, it is hooked up directly to the battery. When my remote's battery died, i needed to go to work so i unlocked my car with the key. the alarm went off, i opened my hood and disconnected the positive and negative wires to my security system and was on my way.

check which remote your have here:
http://www.etimago.com/yaris/TSB/TS-...ng%20Guide.pdf

then go shopping for a used one on ebay. do you need programming instructions?

normally to disable the factory alarm with a non-transponder key. you need to open the door and then insert the key into ignition and turn it to ON and OFF position TWICE.

if the key was having the transponder in it then unlocking the door disarms the alarm at same time (and later immobilizer gets disarmed when you insert the key into ignition).

I'm going to try the on and off method first. I really can't afford to pay for one of the replacements right now and I need to be able to use my car asap. I'm just afraid that if it doesn't work the car alarm will continue to go off and I won't be able to stop it.

it works on my wife's 5s-fe which has a dealer installed alarm (RS3000 Fujitsu-Ten exactly same as yours) and no engine immobilizer nor transponder chipped keys.

tell you what. if turning the key in ignition to ON and OFF (twice, 2 cycles) doesn't stop it, then simply pop the hood and unhook the negative battery terminal for 2 minutes. it will reset the radio and clock, but should also throw the alarm into disarmed condition.

since you don't have the remote to arm it then it will allow you to drive it until you get a replacement key fobs, get 2 of them to avoid such unpleasant problem in future.

used remote should not be more than $35 each on ebay, that's what I paid for 2 sets of (different) remotes for both Toyota cars. all of them look like new.

programming of new remotes into RS3000 brain requires to physically press a magical green button on the alarm unit. it's very easy once you have direct access to it. camry should have the alarm ECU behind the dash console, not sure where exactly, never had a camry per se.

this is the replacement key fob you need, did it look like it?

make sure you are getting the gray one, because the same model just black is for older cars and will NOT work if you had a gray one.
