3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a camry 1993 V6 for about four years, always runs good. In the pass 4 weeks something has come up. At the beginning (four weeks ago) only stutter after car was warm then at 40 mph will stutter more, once I press for more Gas it goes away (engine shakes bad at 40). But in the last couple days it gets real bad from the beginning. If I turn AC on forget it gets real bad. My stomach feels bad.
Now I replace the sparks plugs, plugs wire, distributor cap, rotor and ECT Sensor. Same problem. I also notice my lights dime some, never notice before. Car is old but I would like to fixed. It has 158,000 miles.
I just check the O2 sensor they are good. I also clear Throttle and intake air sensor.
Maybe have autozone check the charging system and battery for free? Check the drive belt tension? Maybe the EGR system as well.
I did check the battery with a tester and is fine. Also charging system ok. I did test the ERG Vacuum modulator and tested good. Also cleaned EGR valve. One thing I have not done is to check the drive belt tension. Thank you. Will do that tomorrow.

Drive belt tension is fine.
Thank you for your input.
Engine mounts, front end suspension, shakes/stutters more under load like up hill accel?
Am in Florida, no hills. Funny you ask, tonight outside temperature is 44 degrees and it ran well. Actually I did 65 and very little of the stumbling or engine shaking. weird . I think is a sensor problem. Leak at a hose.
Does the car shake when stationary? How's the idle rpm?
Looking through an open hood how does the engine shift when you shift into D/R from Park or Neutral (brakes applied of course).
Very little at stationary, but I feel the differences. Engine looks ok while shifting. I hear the differences on the back pipe. It sounds like a missing spark but constant. I took all the sparks plugs out again but they look good. No oil, or black stains. I just replace then about two week ago thinking that was the problem.
With little roughness at idle it's probably not the IAC or ECT sensor that are common causes of idle roughness, or the engine mounts, since the movement seems normal.
So the problem is more when under load, but the fuel filter was changed too with new ignition components (plugs, wires, cap and rotor). Since the EGR valve itself was cleaned, just wondering how did it operate when pulled a 3-5 in/Hg vacuum?
