First check your trans fluid level. Problem could be delayed or sticking shift solenoid, low pressure, old/dirty fluid. When was the last time fluid was changed?

If trans diagnose is by national chain be careful, very careful. Usually you can try cheap easy stuff first, like changing fluid.

Don't be surprised if they say you need a new transmission. From what I've seen that's about their solution to every trans problem.
