Question how to put Gen 5 wheels on a Gen4?

I have an 01 camry 4cyl with drum brakes in the rear if that even matters but i'm trying to fit rims off of a 2005 solar and the issue i'm running into is the tire rubs on the shock tower and with a 3/8" wheel space the tire rubs on the fender a little bit. has anyone succesfully ran thees rims on a 4 camry?

heres a pic

215/55-17 are what i'm using rite now, however i'm having 215/50-17 instaled on monday, I just don't think its going to make much of a difference other than correcting the spedo because of the diamiter and I read FAQ on tire size stuff but that didn't really help me much because I don't have any idea what the backspacing is or anything

Going from 212/55-17 to 215/50-17 will knock off nearly an inch off the entire diameter of the tire and very close to the OEM diameter. Most offset are between 38-44 for Camry. I would try to run it without the spacer after the new tires.

You should be able to run them without any problems if you have the correct tires. I have 18s on mine with a 245/45 tires I think. Don't know if it's 225, but anyways. It barely passes by 5mm. Your tires are too thick so in between 215/50-225/45 is enough to clear it for you.

Basic info on tires:

the triple digit number you find on tires, Ex. 225/xx 215/xx refers to the width of the tire.

The double digit after the first set, Ex. 212/55, 225/45 refers to the thickness of the tire wall (Sidewall). The spacing between the outer rim of your wheel and the outer surface of your tire. The higher the number, the thicker is, lower, the thinner it is. Hope that clarifies it a bit for you.

Here's a link that goes in depth on tire sizes, the meaning behind the numbers, letters, and dimensions.

yeah I understand the specs of the tire digits, I just wasnt sure if when I put these new tires on if that was going to help prevent it from rubbing because it's rubbing on the side so reguardless of height the width is the main issue. I forgot to mention that part because the stocks were a 205 I beleive and the new are 215 which isnt a huge jump but i'll see what happens tomarow with the tires

Okay, I thought you were talking about the upper part of the tire rubbing on your struts. If it's the inner sidewall rubbing your struts, the cheapest way is to get some spacers. 5mm should be enough to clear it. As for rubbing the fenders, going from 55 to 50 should help.

What is the offset for the solara wheels? My 18s offset is +38 and barely clears by 5mm.

Well, you can say that if you have it lowered and don't want to roll you fenders with minor modifications to your wheel well, then yes. 45 is the max if you're lowered, 50 if not if you're rolling on 18s. 17s, I think you can go up to 55 max on factory height.

right, thanks, the difference between stock and lowered height makes it more clear now to me why people prefer certain aspects and thicknesses of tires
