defrost wont work 1998

Hi, I have a 1998 Camry. The AC/heat will only blow out of the main vents, I can change the blow setting to main front vents, front and feet vents, feet only vents, defrost, etc......but it only blows out of the main front vents no matter what setting i put it on.

What could be the problem?

I was thinking a vacuum line might be disconnected...but i looked under the hood and didn't see any breaks or disconnections.

im pretty sure the diffrent vents are changed by an electric servomotor there shouldnt be any vacuum involved, maybe your defrost vents are being blocked up? maybe the servomotor is not working you can look underneath the dash on the driverside if you change vents while looking you should see the motor turning

Faulty mode selection switch or connection. You'll have to remove it and diagnose.

Hey did you ever solve this problem? I just bought a 98 as well and have the same problem (among others ) but would like to knock this one out first. I found a part number for that servomotor which was 87106-06060 is this the correct number?

im pretty sure it is my servo motor too...but i havent been able to locate where it is...i think you have to take out the glove box, but i just havent been ready to tear apart the dash to find it. Ill let you know when/if i do it, and please let me know if you do it first and how it went.

take a flashlight and look underneath your driver's side foot-well. look up and to the right (towards the center console) and you should see a white plate. this is where that servomotor lives. once that white plate is removed (there is a white locking tab in the center which can be released with a screwdriver) you should be able to remove the servomotor (3 mounting screws total)

what i did today was just remove that white plate and manually move the levers so it directed the air to the defroster rather than the face (this manual adjustment will work just fine for me!)
