People leaving notes saying they want to buy my car
Hey guys,
This has been going on for a while now. People at various times will leave notes on my car saying: Would you like to sell your car? If so call me.
Here is the kicker, it's different people that are leaving these notes with this names and number. I feel like this is some kind of scam but I couldn't find any type of proof. So I wanted to ask the forum members, what's with a 2000 Camry that these people are after? Any ideas? Suggestions? or even encounters like this?
Try loking up the numbers. If that doesn't yeild any info then try calling one from a random payphone. I had one of these instances happen to me but the "buyer" said to text him too. I'm really not too sure how it could be seen as a scam without any real information about who or where...ya know?
Just a middle man try to make profit. Craigslist has lots of it. You can tell when the pictures on Craigslist been taken really far away and usually only one picture.
They've teaching classes for these entrepreneurship believe it or not.
ive had people offer to buy vehicles i was driving even thought they werent for sale, but it was always direct contact and never a note. my standard response is "everything can be for sale. what are you willing to pay?" the usual response after that is a price less than 1/2 what the vehicle is worth. yeah, good luck with that.
I've never had notes left, but I've had a couple of people approach me face to face about buying. Bugs the hell out of me, the last guy was really pushy despite repeated "I'm NOT selling the car." statements. And the car isn't going anywhere, believe me.

Well, I did saw one guy who left the notes. He drove a new Camro SS with new plates. But I have been getting different people leave post cards, notes and stuff. I did call one of them, and he said he was willing to pay $4000 for the 2000 Camry LE (V6 but the emblem fell off so he doesn't know it's a V6). I said no thanks. A couple months later, two different notes show up and one with 818 area code which is pretty far from me and another 909 area code. While all my car parked outside, only the Camry gets the attention, while my 2010 Prius and 07 E550 gets no notes at all.. What the heck..Maybe I should just sell it for $6000.
The 1997-2001 was probably one of the best engine designs made by Toyota, so I can see why they are highly sought out...especially from theives and conmen.
Just be cautious and if they don't get the hint then maybe a gun will get their attention
Hope this helps!

I used to get mail flyers every month from 2 local toyota dealers that they want to buy my 2000 camry "because it is hi in demand and will give $1000 more than anyone else". So I went (not to sell my baby) and it was the good old bait and switch scam...they valued my car as $2500 (with just 76Kmiles and spotless at that time), but will give a new camry with 2K off in addition to this price.Oh ya toyota was giving 1k off at that time.
There are a lot of gen 4 Camrys on the road in this area but very few for sale, and the price is high on the ones that you see advertised which shows the demand is high for these vehicles. I haven't had anyone leave a note on my Camry, but I did once have a guy leave a note on an old-but-nice pickup I had, so I called him up and sold it to him (cash deal of course) and bought a newer one!
I think Gen3,4 &5 Camry's built such a quiet reputation as well engineered and sophisticated vehicles, that when a lot of folks are looking for a used car that will still hold up well in a comparison of quality and driving experience with much newer cars, actively look for them. They are rare on used car lots in decent shape because they get passed down to family members, and friends. My own local Toyota dealer says so. They also say that trade in values tend to insult customers enough to give their cars to their kids before taking crappy money for them. A super clean Gen4, will give you a car with 95% of the driving experience of a 2010 model equivalent from any manufacturer (- maybe 2 sec. in a 0-60 race), for 10's of thousands less. This leaves you with lot of money to take up the % with nicer sound, wheels tires, etc. Heck, my Gen3 is quieter and smoother to ride in than the 2011, Sienna, they drove me to work in and picked me up with in during a recent service.
I left a buy note on a Gen3.5 recently myself.
