3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So, lady's car broke down by this property that my neighbor bought a while ago; she left it there w/her contact info. So my neighbor gave me her # to contact her & she told me she couldn't afford to fix it & she was planning on donating it. I asked her if I could keep it & fix it up (I was planing to sell it, but I didn't tell her that). So, she came by & gave me the title & the keys to the car.
Now about the car...it's a '93 Camry LE V6 Wagon 7-passenger. The body has some minor rust on it, other than that, the body is fine & it only has 145k miles on it. Now the bad, the reason it broke down is b/c it overheated, b/c the pipe that takes the anti-freeze form the little bottle was broken. So we decided that we will just change out all the hoses & pipes. Also, as of right now, the car isn't starting, it cranks but it won't turn over. We think it's either the spark plug wires which are bad (one of the wires that was on the passenger side seat looked like it was chewed up or the intake pipe has been duck taped so that needs to be changed or maybe it might be the timing. These are the theories we have as of now. & it needs a radio. Now, I was thinking that I would turn it into my daily beater so I don't ruin my car. I need to get a hub cap off eBay & a radio & get like clear headlights for it + some HID's & change out all the stock bulbs for LED's. & just for fun, I may toss in some indigo gauges. But let's see how things go 1st. I'll keep you guys posted on any developments, any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Lol, thanks xpeed, let's see how things go, it's soggy outside & it's supposed to rain today but the weather is good tomorrow so I might just do it tomorrow. Anyways, I had just gotten new tires on my '05 Camry b/c I had rotated the tires on my car a few years & I got a nail right after I rotated them (I am talking about my Michelin tires that I had gotten like 3-4 years ago). Then, I got a set of rims w/Dunlop tires which I then used on the car for about a year & a half. The compound on my tires were becoming extremely flaky so I had to put my Michelin tires on the alloy rims. These were 205/65 R15 tires that I had. I thought the Gen 3 Camry V6's had the same tires as the Gen 2 Camry V6's which were 195/70 R15's. Anyways, I threw out the tires from my Camry which had the mail & got new ones b/c the it was ripping a little from the place I got the tires plugged & I was going to Maryland. But, not I discovered that the Gen 3 Camry's have the same tire size as my car & the tires on this wagon are shot so I can't use the car in the winter. I really wish I had kept the tires.
Okay, so I opened up the car. Took off the intake & saw that the oil got into the spark plugs & in the intake valve b/c the excessive heat jammed everything up. My neighbor & I cleaned everything up & my neighbor is going to put most of it back together by today or latest tomorrow. Then we will try to start it up. We are going to try to use some spark plugs & wires from other cars which we have already done in the past. Once we get it up & running & I feel like I want to keep it, I will give it a compete tune up w/brand new plugs, wires & everything, otherwise I will just sell it.
Ok, so I've come to a decision that I will sell it as is as a parts car for someone or i will donate just it or something. It will be too expensive to pursue fixing it. I got it started but the oil goes straight into the plugs. If I were to sell it I would like around $1,500 or it, or someone can make an offer, the car is in Parisppany, NJ. Net me know.

May I assume that the new spark plugs and wire set didn't fix the no-start issue?

May I assume that the new spark plugs and wire set didn't fix the no-start issue?
Well, it did, I got it started. But the engine oil comes up through the pistons & basically clogs up the spark plugs. Looks like it's going to be expensive to really fix. I had a brainstorm while I was @ work today; my mom has a '95 Camry Wagon w/out the 3rd row seat, I was thinking to see if there was a way to maybe put the 3rd row seat from this Camry Wagon & put it into my mom's Wagon. I wanted to take apart this Wagon that's sitting there & see if it's possible. It may not be b/c of the well that's carved out for my mom's Wagon is shaped as a circle & this one may not fit in there. But who knows, maybe I'll get lucky.
