just to make sure. you replaced the o2 sensor in Bank 1, meaning the one by firewall and not by radiator, correct?

what brand and model of sensor did you use?

P0135 refers to heated oxygen sensor. this error often means that heater circuit is not working in the sensor, usually because the heater in sensor itself is burned out, but can mean the wiring is bad too and even good heater in it doesn't get the juice.

also, if error keeps coming back while it shouldn't then you have to check the wiring, something could be broken in wire insulation or loose at fuses or shorting out somewhere.
lastly make sure the ground points are clean and sitting tight, there is many of them.

is this car federal emission specs or california emission? they use different type of upstream sensors (narrow band thimble type vs wideband Air Fuel Ratio sensors respectively).

the other sensor required for Bank 1, usually refers to downstream (post-catalytic) o2 sensor in exhaust under car, often described as Bank 1 Sensor 2, it's usually a different type/model.

I bought Denso direct fit OEM, so i should take that one out and replace it to the rear right? and how hard to take the rear out? is the front and the rear are the same? and how do i find is it the California version? versus the normal one? but i think my big mistake is change the wrong one, thanks

Yup, you changed the wrong one. Bank 1 sensor 1 is the one in the rear exhaust's downpipe. And yes, the front and rear sensors are the same. So I hope you didn't throw away the one you took out. But before you do that, you should verify you've got the right sensors, CA Vs Federal. There should be a sticker under the hood somewhere that states whether it's CA or Federal emissions compliant.

The rear bank sensor is a bit more difficult to replace. You can go at it from above or below. I did it from below on my Avalon, but it's a tight squeeze; can't have Popeye's forearms. To go at it from above requires removing something near the firewall (I forget what) and using a long-ish wrench.

I don't know about 4Runners specifically. But bank 2 sensor 2 should be the left bank, downstream sensor. If there's two cats, one for each bank, I'd look on the downstream side of the lefthand (driver's side) cat.

Take off air filter box and it is an easy reach from the top to sensor, and connector.

Bank 1 is the side with cylinder #1.

Bank 2 Sensor 2 - If you can find spark plug #2 or cylinder #2 that is Bank 2, looking at the front of the engine it would be driver side, or your right hand side. Sensor 2 is after the catalytic convertor, most likeley under the truck.

This TSB might help to clear up where the o2 sensors are located.
