Exclamation Another P1135 thread

This morning I threw a P1135 code and read on here the fixes for it. I read two different things, one that the sensor was the one right in your face when you open the hood and another thread said it was the one by the firewall. I replaced the one right in the front with Denso 234-9010 (also saw all 2001's are california emission) and then disconnected the negative side of my battery for about 15 minutes. Turned the car back on and there is no CEL.

I've also read that this code would come back instantly once the car was turned on again (i forget the reason) but it hasn't, i let it run for 20 minutes while i was making a sandwich and it never came back on.

Now, i see that sometimes these go out in series? Maybe the one by the firewall will go out soon (knock on wood it doesn't) and i saw also that sometimes its the actual battery of the car?

Is it basically just a waiting game now?

Help would be great, thanks.

this is the one i replaced, its a 2001 4cyl

P1135 = Air/Fuel Sensor Heater Circuit Response. (Bank 1 Sensor 1) per this website. So yes, your car has Air/Fuel sensors instead of O2 sensor, which means it's CA emissions compliant. Not all are, per Denso's online catalog here. Bank 1 sensor 1 is in the exhaust downpipe. Bank 1 sensor 2 is the one downstream from the cat. So going by Denso's catalog you've replaced the correct sensor with the correct p/n. BTW, if you had a V6, bank 1 sensor 1 would be the one near the firewall.

As for them going out in series, AFAIK that's not really true. But some folks do consider O2 & A/F sensors as maintenance items, and say they should be replaced every 100k miles or so. I'm in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp.

Awesome, thanks for the clarification
