Replaced Valve cover gaskets on 1999 camry 1mz-fe, now P0773, P0775, P1765 - no start

Hello Guys,

I am thinking that I may have left something inside when I re-installed the valve covers with new gaskets

What are my chances of recovering this engine? or I am totally screwed?

Tomorrow I am going to reopen and check the valve covers to see if there is anything is inside.

Thanks for the help.

My guess is that it doesn't have anything to do with what you left inside, but rather what you left off, when re-assembling everything. At this point it will be hard to see, but at the back of the ACIS (Plenum) there is a ground wire that connects to a bolt behind the plenum, and near the passenger side.

Also check that the ground wires are connected on the flat plate of the ACIS. That might be the problem as well. I'll see if I can find a pic of it somewhere....Found one. It's probably not the exact motor you have, but notice the ground wire at the bottom. On mine (2000) there are a bunch of them.

Here's another pic, probably closer to what yours looks like. Notice the ground wires on the bottom left bolt. (Ignore the red circle)

That's the cause of the errors. I has nothing to do with the transmission, just a disconnected ground wire.

Good luck.

Yes, the both ground wires are connected to Air Intake Chamber.

Actually three wires, two one the side and one in the back.

I am going to check again to see if I missed anything. Will update...

If the two large set of wires in the wiring loom are connected, along with the single small one, then trace the small thin one back to be sure it's securely clipped into the connector right under the dog bone, that grounds to the body right above the strut tower.

There are two ground wires in connectors there. Be sure they are both pushed in tight. Wouldn't hurt to put some dielectric grease in the connectors if you have any.

If all that is OK, then I'd remove all the bolted connections, clean them up with carb cleaner, and a light scuffing with sandpaper to insure that there is a good contact after they are bolted back to the ACIS.

If none of this solves the problem, then I'm fresh out of ideas.
