94 starter problem

I've got a problem with my starter and was hoping you guys can help me out. Usually when the car sits for a while and I try to start it, there it a short "click" from the starter and then nothing. Sometimes I need to turn the key five or more times before the starter actually starts working properly. Usually there is a short click from the starter when I turn the key, and when I hold the key there is a quiet buzzing sound after the click. I also bought a new battery, and one day when I tried to start the car there was that short click, and right after that click, the battery was completely drained. This happens rarely, but I don't think its the battery since it is new. Would the starter be draining the battery and would the starter need to be replaced?

I was going to say I think the starter's solenoid contacts need to be replaced until you said this:

That makes me think the charging system is going bad. I'd take it to an auto parts store and ask them to check the battery (they do occasionally die prematurely) and charging system using their fancy schmancy tester.

Toyota343,

Don't buy a new starter... Your contact wore; therefore, you heard a click when you tried to start the car.

Here is another link to compare to rebuild your old starter..
