3rd & 4th Generation (19921996 & 19972001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 1992 Toyota Camry and about 180k . The car would not start.First I check all the fuels in the car they were all fine. Then I checked the car for spark and I found out there is no spark coming out. I also used the volt meter to test where the connecter on the side of the distributor. When I turn the key to on I get a reading around 12volts. So my next guess was the distributor. I check the ignition coil also by using the volt meter and it checked out fine (also brought the coil to Advanced Auto parts the guy did the same test to confirm). I then took apart the whole distributor to check any loose wire, I didnt find any. NOW I am really lost Can you help me ...
your inginator (not sure spelling) bad.if iginator bad you don't see spark. iginator is inside the distributor ...look flat inside distributor. you have to remove the distributor cap and you see fat iginator.
take pic posted on here... we'll help to point out...if you're not sure...
look fore inginator for crack...sometimes they're crack...
Look closely at the coil for cracks where it's potted. Sometimes they can ohm out OK but still be bad because of cracks. I suspect moisture gets in and resistance will check OK with the low voltage a meter applies. But the high voltage the coil generates internally shorts out to somewhere it shouldn't.
