There is a spaghetti O-ring gasket that should be replaced, it goes between the oil pump itself and the oil pump housing, easy to replace. There is also a shaft seal, they often leak as well. To replace this, you have to remove the oil pump, then remove the gear to get to it. The shaft itself has a habit of developing a groove in it, if so, then the shaft will have to be replaced. An alternative is to replace the entire pump, they go for about $75.
The oil pump itself can easily last the life of the engine, assuming you take care of the above issues.
