People with bass in 4th gen camry; rattle question.
So I went ahead and sound deadened all of the trunk, driver side door, and most of the roof. I am still getting rattling from god knows what in the rear.
What are the main components that you sound deadened? I can't figure out what is rattling in the rear.
I know there is that rectangular thing that seems like an air duct on the left side of the trunk. I have no idea what is it for but I kept it rattling.
There is also the spoiler, but I'm just going to leave that rattling as well.
And then there is the unknown that I can't figure out and it's driving me crazy!!
Let me know if you're one of the people who carry bass systems in their trunk and eliminated most of the rattling issues.
air duct on the left side of the trunk? hmm i think i have to look at that. when i was running two 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect sub, i dynamatted my whole trunk (driver & pass. rear panels, under the spare tire well, under the rear deck and under trunk lid), the dynamat killed off a lot of rattling in the trunk but i would still hear rattlings too. but most of the rattling were coming from rear deck panel where the 3rd brake light is mounted above. you can add extra foam or cushion between the rear deck panel.
I'll take a picture of it tomorrow. It's this weird rectangular thing that has these 3(maybe 4?) flaps. Its behind the plastic cover and below the bulb section. Not sure what it's called.
You're probably hearing the torsion bars for the trunk lid rattling. I can guarantee the license plate is rattling as well. The solution that worked best for me was taking the sub out.
Try getting better speakers and a better headunit first. That would make the biggest difference, believe me. Then decide whether or not you need a sub.
Just because you add Dynamat doesnt automatically kill of all rattling.(don't forget our cars are made out of plastic!) I have no Dynamat in my car and the rear my car rattles only on certain base notes (raerly). I found the problem to be the rear drivers side corner panel. It hits the rear windshield and causes the rattle. I haven't figured out a way to fix it, but it doesn't bother me, so nothing major...

Don't start a new thread, you'll just have more people tell you to search. And also, that you're an idiot (not you pmesfun).
I've had 3300 watts of bass in my trunk and no rattle. If you don't ghetto rig your shit, and actually plan things out and do things right when you're modifying something, they actually work.

jonate did you read my post closely, i said it killed a lot of the rattling, not all rattling. i have the infinity kappa perfect 12.1 (each receiving 1,000 watts) and these subs hit the low notes like no other subs. dynamat won't eliminate rattle but it will reduce and deepen the flimsy rattles on metal panels. btw, i love your new headlights. have you installed the whiteline sway bars?
I would like to admit, I did not read ALL the posts. I didn't do so because it looked like people were arguing and I don't have time for that.
I have a 12-inch Pioneer with a non-ported box, 300w RMS (650w max) amp. I heard rattling all over the car. What I did was take the license plate and put a small piece of soda can card board doubled over behind it poured water to make it sticky and boom, worked well. I tightened down all the bolts and the child safety latch on the rear deck from the inside of the rear seat. I took some WD-40 to all bolts as well for extra measure. I noticed that there was a bit of rattling whenever I hit certain QUICK HIGH notes with the sub (not low bassy tones) and looked over my previous install of Pioneer 6x9s in the rear deck. The sub had beaten the bolts loose on that so I ended up rubber cementing them. Now the only thing that rattles is the suspension, I need to get that replaced, but I go to Afghanistan in two months so I am not too worried about it.
I didn't use any of that sound dampening material either, I don't care if people outside my car can hear the rattle of the trunk nor the sound of the bass.

ty**20: Lol, I was referring to anuhn's original comment. I know you got your system knowledge locked tight! Thanks on the props Sways will be installed as soon as I get back to Augusta in about a week! Where did your system pics go? I think a system's picture thread will be in effect...

haha my bad i thought you were referring direct to me. i guess my hang-over from new year's eve drinking isn't gone yet. yeah i took off my pictures, i thought since it is your build thread i'd leave it only for your pictures. but i will post them up on your newly sound system thread (creative idea of your's).

no arguing here. just some misreading (all my fault). adding dampening material won't do much but it will greatly increase the quality of bass and reduce unwanted noise. but its your setup, no need to listen to me.
Ahhh, just to make things clear, I do have a new head unit and new speakers. I definitely need the bass because I am a bass head. And yes, I know it won't eliminate all the rattling, but this one, I am sure I can get rid of that rattle. I SHALL CONQUER IT....just can't figure out where lol.
I'm only running ~1300 watts on the 2 12's in my trunk right now. More power sooner or later when I'm not too busy.
No, the license plate is not rattling, and no, my rear corner panels are not rattling. I used second skin spectrum sledge on all my rear panel trims and completely throughout the whole trunk, the trunk lid, and most of the rear deck. My 6x9's were actually rattling a couple months ago and I got that tightened down like a mother with new screws, so those aren't rattling anymore.
I will take a look at the torsion bars though. Thanks for the heads up.
