Difference In USA vs Japan Steering Gears

I have a USA made 93 camry. I just finished replacing the power steering pump and hoses. The pump lists as usa made and japan made with different, no compatible pumps.

My vin starts with: 4T1SK11E1PU****** clearly is not a japan made car.

I go to install my new USA pump, and discover that the usa pump has 3 hose fittings, and my car only has 2. Japan pump fits great, US pump, not so much.

Well, now its time to play the same game with the rack and pinion, and I really don't want to go through that PITA again. How can I tell which rack my car came with. What are the external differences between the two?

Thanks, and sorry for the long first post.

I cant answer your question.

But work on cars, and you will run into problems like that on occasion. Bout the only thing that will save you is to look at pictures and your car before hand and study them. Sometimes that isn't possible. Good luck though.

If you look at the pics on autozone.com, it shown 2 holes for 4 cyl. and 5s for 6 cylinder respectively.

Could it be someone sold you the wrong pump?
