Looking to buy a Camry

I am looking to buy a 3rd or 4th gen Camry mostly 4th gens. I have been looking on Craigslist, my budget is $2500 but most of the Camry's around that price have about on average 170000 miles on them. Would it be alright to buy one with high miles like that for that price or could I get one for cheaper? I mostly just need a car that's hopefully not give me huge mechanical troubles for at least 3 years until I finish school.

Thanks

I would look on autotrader and buy within a 50-100 mile range from your zip code. type in year, make, model and price and see whats available. I would bet a well maintained car is available as many toyota owners know the value of maintaining the car. look for a seller / owner that has a thick book of maint records, they are out there. look for obvious needs like brakes, tires, batteries, timing belts, obvious problems on test drive, check all power options, windows, ect...........

At that price/mileage, it's all about how well maintained it is. It could be a total wreck, needing struts, leaking oil everywhere, etc., etc... Or it could be decent and easily good for another 100k miles.

Pretty much exactly what they ^^ said.

I purchased a 97' Camry LE from a friend of our family's for $200 with 303,000 miles on it. Drove it until about 336,000 miles and sold it for $800 lol.

It drove fine the whole time. It's all about how well maintained the car is.

i would rather have a well maintained car with 250k than an abused one with 100k
