94 v6 coupe tranny going. what to do?

I have a 94 se coupe. the transmission shop said they found brass and metal when they were doing the transmission flush. They stated it will last maybe a year or so. So should i start looking for a new car or is a tranny not that expensive to change. Also how hard is it to change from auto tranny to manual? Need help. Thank you

Tranny is pretty pricey if you don't do it yourself. Trans itself could be anywhere from 400-2000 bucks depending on the warranty. Manual swaps are talked about in a few threads on here.

Personally I wouldn't look for a new car. A 2K dollar trans job is still better than 200-300 dollar car payments for the next 3-5 years. And what about the repair that car may need.

Here a few on ebay.

how many miles are on the car? The only reason I would look into another car is if its really high in miles and the tranny isn't only one thing that could cause issues in the near future. Personally, I'd try to replace the tranny if you can. Just make sure that the tranny that is replaced is an SE or ES300 tranny. You go asking for a camry v6 tranny and they will get you a standard one.

Going manual swap will have to be done by you and would be more then just replacing the auto yourself but cheaper then paying someone to replace the auto.

Do what is best for you. As mentioned tranny work is expensive, (though the parts that make up the complete tranny are not). Anyway, if the rest of the car is in VG to excellant condition, keep it and replace the tranny

That first link you posted, I would not trust that tranny. it appears to be on the floor, uncovered with no dust cover. Also, the shipping on that tranny could be a lot of money.

Do you secretly want to buy his/her car?

it has 244k on it so it does have some miles. we just bought it a couple months ago and seems to run strong. The only reason i wouldnt make it manual is cause of the wife. i found a motor with only 43k miles on it for 1200 which is still less than a newer car so im just trying to get advise on weither it is time to get rid of her or keep her.

You mean a power flush or did they drop the pan and drain it? It is probably not a good idea to get a flush on any transmisson much less one with that many miles on it. What kind of fluid did they do the refill with? If I had a flush done with a tranny with that many miles on it I would have used the best fluid I could buy, like Mobil One. If it's running good now you have time to save for a transmission later.

Who did the flush?
