My haynes manual says something like 33 ft-lbs, but someone on this forum said that a revised toyota spec is 17 ft-lbs, and that is what I used when I changed the v.c. gasket last, and haven't had any problems. Someone else said to check / re-torque a few days after, and so I did that as well.

33 lb/ft is for the old valve cover gasket. I guess even that didn't work. The new material specs 17 lb/ft.

But re-torque after 30 minutes and periodically check it. This design isn't the best and it comes loose often.
