3rd Generation Air fuel ratio help? (regarding air intake)

Hey everyone, hope you are all doing well.

So, I put in a new air intake in my 96 5S-FE camry because the old piping was cracked and falling apart. I just kind of built my own using different pieces of piping.

I routed it to where the new conical filter is behind the battery and used the old air filter box to create a heat shield from the rest of the engine with a skill saw and a lot of fitting and cutting. I then wrapped the whole thing in heat resistant tape (not sure if this helps, but it was worth a try).

I drilled holes in the new intake in roughly the same places that they were in the old one to put in the vacuum hose (I think ?) and the O2 sensor.

My friend said that now that the airflow is less restrictive, I need to enrich the engine to compensate for greater air flow. How do I do this? I have adjusted it to maintain a smooth idle on my brothers 4-runner and know it adjusts in clicks. Do I even need to do anything since my idle is fine? Will giving it more gas give me more power?

Thanks,

Nathan

You don't need to do anything to enrich it, your friend is mistaken. You will not get that much more flow.

the ECU will enrich the fuel in mixture accordingly to maintain the best optimal air/fuel ratio for more incoming air.
the difference is like 5% max, leave it to the ECU and enjoy
