Light Bulb Question - '97 Camry LE

Sylvania's website has a good guide on (almost) all of the light bulb sizes for most cars, but I wanted to ask about the size code for the map light in a 4th Gen Camry LE as it is the only bulb size they do not list.

Since there are a few conflicting terms for these lights (dome/map/ceiling/roof/etc), what I mean is the light in the ceiling next to the sunglasses compartment and sunroof button.

I had another other quick question for anyone that may know. I was going to replace the lights in my gauge cluster but I can't find info as to how different color lights affect the colors on the gauges. What I mean by this is, for example, if I put a white LED bulb into the slot for the D (Drive) on the gear indicator, will it still filter through green? Or should I get a green bulb?

Thanks!

Just pull out the Dome/ceiling/map light and take it to the store with you.
The gauge cluster lights will light what ever color you put in, stock is white bulb with a green cover on it. The gear indicator lights are all white, there is a piece of colored plastic that makes the "D" green the "N" amber etc..

Thank you for responding.

I was going to buy an LED replacement bulb off of eBay, but I think I'll do as you suggested and see if they can give me the size.

As far as the gauge cluster goes, are the gear indicator lights the only ones with colored plastic to filter through? Or do indicator lights (check engine, O/D off, etc) also have filters?

Thanks Again!

Yes, only the 5 gauge illumination lights do not have filters (just a green rubber "condom" on them). Just as an aside I changed my dash, radio, ignition, lighter, A/C, and rear defrost illumination to red, using LED's from superbright.com and actually coloring a couple light bulbs.

Thanks! One of my gauge illumination lights has been out and I might just replace them all with white LED's.

Your response reminded me of another question I forgot to ask. How do you replace the lights in the A/C control unit? They have been burnt out since I've had the car. If this has been covered in another thread, can you please point me in the direction of it? I'm responding from my phone and the forum search doesn't work well on its browser.

While I'm replying I might as well ask this too since you mentioned it lol. How do you go about changing the ignition light ring? Again, if another thread has the answer, please point me there.

Thanks! You've been a big help!

Here's a DIY thread for the climate control bulbs. They have little green rubber condoms on them too. When I replaced them on my Camry (gen3) I had a helluva time finding the bulbs; the base was some funky size (a little bigger than the instrument cluster bulbs), so I ended up getting them from the dealer.

Thanks for the links to those threads!

I have one last quick question and I will be out of your hair lol. Once again, if there is a thread concerning this, point me its way.

What is the size of the bulb for the ashtray, and how do you change it out?

THANKS!
