My visit to my dealer today
I did visit my Dealer today to check out the price of changing my timing belt.
To change the belt, nothing else, flat fee of $235. That's what they advertise.
To put in oil seals and water pump add 2 hours@ $75 an hour, maybe an hour and a half. I'm old don't remember. Water pump with housing is $110, That's a regular price for the real thing. I need drive belts and seals. I told them that it would best for me if I can buy these parts as I get the money instead of trying to save for everything all at once. They said that was fine, that whatever I get they will install. I think that's pretty decent for a Toyota dealer to do that.
I can save 30 by buying online Toyota Parts but there is shipping.
My big question is do I need a water pump with housing or without?
Actual mechanic that I spoke to said he recommends with housing as it replaces with new seals inside the rest of the pump and should be good to go.
He really did not seem to be concerned with replacing the oil pump, just the seals. This is a major concern to me, being my only car and and extra 200 clams just for the oil pump. I think I'll just change the seals. If you think different, let me know.
I figure that by the time all is said and done I'll be in 600.
That includes all belts and seals too.
Good price?
