3rd Generation 1995 Camry timing belt

My car has 53,613 miles on it. 2.2 liter 4 cyl. Do I need to change the timing belt? I've seen some threads on here where they say 60,000 miles is when it's suggested to change, but others seem to go 100K without any problems. Do I need to worry because it's 17 years old? It's a 2nd car and is driven less than 5000 miles per year. I'm in Los Angeles, CA.

Thank in advance.

Was it stored outside or in a garage? I would cause ozone in the air (heavy in Los Angeles) degrades rubber over time through oxidation.

Just my 2cents.

The car was in Oregon until 2007. Has been in Los Angeles since then and kept in a garage.

Its really up to you. Since its a non-interference engine, if it breaks, you just put in a new one along with other parts you should change. That being said, you don't want it to conk out on you when on the freeway adding to the congestion.

I would replace it since its old. Since it has low mileage, you know you or someone will hopefully drive this thing for awhile longer.

As bdy0003 posted, having 16 years on the T-belt is questionable. Toyota recommend 60K on the Gen 3 (or 6-7years on some books, which ever come first) Rubber will dry and any small cracks required replacement.

If you plan to keep the car. Do the replacement right the first time. I would replace the water pump, idler pulley, tensioner, and seals if they are leaking. (I have to do my timing belt job twice because I keep old parts on)

I didn't change my belt on my '93 until over 100K mi... only because it slipped my mind.
I am not suggesting that at all... upon inspection, the belt was separating at one of the teeth.

I'd just get it done and take it off your mind.

Personally knowing this was just done gives me a bit more peace of mind, it will you too.

p.s. broke as a joke again, if you have some extra $$$ you can give me for my game-room that would be great.

AISIN WPT010A Water pump w/o housing $30.79
FEL-PRO VS50304R1 Valve Cover Gasket Set w/Spark plug tube seals

Isn't that what the timing belt cover is supposed to protect against?

Timing belt cover is not air tight and does not protect against heat, so not at all.
