So it sounds like my strut mounts might be bad. On my way to get them checked this morning. But my car doesn't bounce when going over big bumps. So I don't think the struts are bad. But should I just replace the hole thing anyway if we have to remove it? Or is it easy enough just to replace just the mount.

Also...
If I replace the hole thing should I get the replacement one for my 98 I4? I would like something that helps corning. I live were there are no straight roads.

Ok the strut boots are all ripped, but the chrome shaft still looks good, and I couldn't shack the struts. So I don't think there bad yet. The sway bar bushings are there but one side has some freeplay in it before the bushing would show movement. Can that make the noise?

It's possible the bushings contribute some. These are cheap so replace them. Price things out you may find new assemblies are better deals. As far as the struts go, the closest to OEM ride would be the KYB Strut Plus assemblies at about $180 or so on Amazon.
