2001 Camry wipers parking in UP position

Was just driving my 2001 Camry with 54,000 miles the other day (in the rain), and all of a sudden the wipers started acting weird. The drivers wiper stopped moving, then started again. I turned them off and they parked in the UP position. Same thing happens when I run them intermitantly. It's like they have forgotten where they are supposed to stop. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

It's probably the controller located on the wiper motor. You could replace the motor or try to take the one you have apart and see what the problem is.

Yeah, carefully disassemble it to see what's wrong, but make sure to put things back if still can't make it work because wiper motors are rebuilt and you lose $25 core charge otherwise.

There are two types, ITTA or Denso, so check yours:

There is a flat arm inside the motor controller that seems to fall off or break. I made one and it worked for a little while then became dislodged. Found a close out wiper motor assy from Rock Auto and that fixed the problem. You can just remove the black cover for the controller and see inside.
