Tar Smell

Hey guys, I've been havin this problem more often than I used to. Every once in a while my cabin would smell like tar. The smell is more noticable when I turn on the heat. I was suspecting it to be the heater's filter, but yesterday I waited outside to let the car warm up and I coould smell it outside. Would that eliminate it being the filter?... Any suggestions?

Either oil dripping on the exhaust or maybe even actual road tar on the exhaust. My best guess would be the oil dripping/leaking since you mentioned it is occuring more rather than less than it used to.

Crawl under the car and take a look at the cats, sometimes they pick up something off the road, it sticks/melts to them and stinks for quiite awhile. Plastic bags are a real offender,,,
