3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
1. remove the cruise control box from the engine bay.
2. reroute the throttle cable (that used to go into the box) to the throttle body
3. cut a notch in one of the throttlebody cable holder bolt holes so that it can slide a bit backwards (otherwise your butterfly will always be open and you'll be idling at 4K+)
4. if you're hardcore, remove all related electronic units

You would probably save more weight if you clean out your trunk, glovebox, and oh yeah all the loose change in the ashtray and cup holders. LOL
I already did lol. Not only do I never have ANY junk or foreign objects in my car, but I've removed everything I possibly can to save weight without affecting the exterior or interior appearance. So yes, I am pretty hardcore.
Haha calm down guys, I'm not THAT extreme. I'm only removing things that are:
- unnecessary
- won't affect the appearance of the exterior, or the passenger compartment
- won't make the car dangerous, unstable, or undriveable
If it doesn't comply with all the rules above, it stays on. So far I've taken off about 50 pounds worth of miscellaneous things, and you can't even tell without opening the hood or trunk.

the system is literally 3 lbs. you'll just be better to leave it in. those night where you get tired or are worried about other things starts w/ road... ends w/ something that sounds like bome hahaha
but really, i started to build a track ready NA 1MZ-FE and it was fun but w/ getting tired every now and then and getting speeding out of my head i enjoyed cruising the freeways of so cal low and at 60-65mph.

oh by the way, the 1mz-fe can go about 30-40 w/ the low fuel light on and taking it easy. i average 17mpg to a tank and when i need to i can get about 24, but then i had a lead foot and didn't like shifting until higher rmps.

Honestly, I don't take road trips so I don't plan to ever use it. But I'm still wondering if 3 lbs is worth it, since I'll just have to reinstall the whole thing when I sell the car.

Yes you are, come on now. 6 ounce tow hook, 8 ounce plastic cover, hood insulation?

And you won't have to replace all the other crap too? What is your rationale for all this. It isn't gas mileage you said you don't take road trips. And if it isn't worth it to take out a 3lb piece how is it worth it to remove a 6 or 8 ounce piece?
Remove you're a/c compressor and the a/c lines. Bam about 30lbs! I rarely ever use my a/c! Only when I'm out on a date or when I had my corolla and hadmanual wndows and felt too lazy to even try to roll the windows down! Lol
My current 5sfe has no a/c compressor. I took it off for 2 reasons, the clutch went bad, and it didn't even have any freon or anything, so what's the point?
