Idle Hunting Problem

Lately I have noticed when I start the car back up after sitting for a bit (trip to the grocery store or whatever) with a warm engine, the dle hunts a LOT...up, down up, down, 300-500 RPM. It will do it in gear if I pull it out of Park soon enough. If I sit there in Park and blip the throttle once or twice, it will sometimes go away, or it will do it, but with less RPM, say 200-250 up, down, up, down. If I start to drive away, and come to a stop, it idles fine (750+-50 RPM) Any ideas? Stumped here.

Sounds to me like a faulty of partially gummed up idle air control valve (IACV). Some attempt to clean it with certain products by taking off the hose on the trottle body and spraying the hole located right in front of the butterfly valve. Others try to remove it completly and manually clean it. I would start there. You will find countless IACV cleaning tips and DIYs if you search the internet.

Good Luck!

Yep, chances are good your car's IAC valve is fouled and needs to be cleaned. You can try spraying some throttle body cleaner into the throat of the intake. That sometimes works. Or to be more thorough, you can remove, disassemble, and clean the IAC valve. I'm guessing by your username that you have a '97? In that case, the IAC valve is similar for the V6 & 4 cylinder engines. Here are a couple of threads showing how to do that:
