Oil leak help

Hey everyone, I just discovered that my 2000 Camry LE is leaking a decent amount of oil. First off, yes I have accelerated that car and put some power to the engine. I went under the car and saw oil leaking from the under side where you can find all the engine belts. Also I saw that some of the frame and the oil pan was covered in oil. Could this be just a seal or did I really just screw my car up? Please reply fast. This oil leak started today.

I have the same problem, oil leaks on area passenger side. oil wet on the passenger axle and I lost a lot of oil because I have to put 1 quart every week. could this possible oil pump leaks? this week, if sunny day.. I'll change timebelt and oil pump seals and all timebelt seals. last time, I had the timebelt changed, they didn't change oil pump O-ring at all. not sure if that is the problem? can someone comments where the oil can be leaks down the passenger side?

2000 Toyota Camry LE with 184,000 miles.

Here's the thing, I just had the head gasket and I'm sure the valve cover gaskets changed. I couldn't have blown the gaskets out? It's hasn't been even four months.

carsrus is posting links to a DIY for replacing the timing belt, which can include changing out the oil pump seal, if one is thorough about it. The oil pump seal is a common source of oil leaks. The valve cover gaskets and head gaskets are completely different.

I see, now that's one thing I'm not quite sure if it has been changed or not. All I know is that the work done to my Camry is changing of head and valve gaskets, water pump and timing belt. Thanks. I'm sure with a car that is over 215,000 miles is bound to have a bad leak, let alone around the area of the general location I said there was oil?

First thing to do is get a can of brake cleaner and de-oil everything really well, than start the engine and try to see if you can find were the oil is coming from, if it is coming out from the timing belt cover it is either the cam, crank,or oil pump seal, to know for sure you will need to take off the timing belt cover and verify witch one is leaking. if one of those three are leaking than you might as well have them all changed out at once, and the timing belt to if it has oil on it or needs changed anyway. their is a good write up in the DIY section on how to do the timing belt and seals.

im having the same issue as well. I have taken both covers off finally and i see oil coming from where the seal is located. No oil is on the timing belt at all. Looking at the timing belt its the seal on the upper left. I have a 2000 camry 4cyl. Is this the camshaft seal or the crankshaft seal? i keep getting them confused. Also how would i Know if its the seal or the oil pump itself? I bought a mizumo auto timing belt kit from ebay so i hope thats the seal that is in that box

Upper most seal is camshaft. It is a piece of cake to change if you remover the valve cover and take the cap off of it. Any other method means you'll scratch the cam at least a little bit.

The pump leaks at 2 places. The o ring which goes around the housing and the shaft seal. The shaft seal is also simple to replace you just need to take the pulley of the shaft.

Crank seal doesnt leak all the time, but it should be changed as well.

the cam shaft seal is the top one coming out of the valve cover, the crank seal is the bottom one that the harmonic balancer is on, so the top left shaft is the cam seal that is leaking in your case. the oil pump has three seals in it;s assembly the shaft seal which is behind the pulley, the cover seal, and the oil pump block gasket. if one is leaking i would replace all three, and if the cam shaft seal is leaking and you are putting on a new timing belt i would replace both cam and crank.

ok i get it now. I took pics of where my problem is. Would that be the seal or the pump?

to get to the oil pump you will need to take off the bottom cover also, you will need to remove the balancer first, it does not look like it is off in the picture.
this is the oil pump post a picture of it, and see if their is oil on it.
