Sometimes brake pads can make sounds for no good reason. Sometimes lots of metal in the semi metallic compound. I also used to have problems with early ceramic pads and I could crack them within weeks of new and it sounded like the brakes were metal to metal.
But being that these are Toyota Orem and usually a friendly compound (minus, of course the original recall pads from our original 1998 gen4s)

I would agree that you should pull the wheel and have a look. Or had your mechanic check it out.
