Help Needed in Re-installing Distributor 96 Camry 5SFE 4 Cyl

Hi,

I removed distributor to check O ring but unable to reinstall it as distributor will not slide in, i have not changed the O ring. I have oiled the O ring and opening and I am putting it back exacltly the way it came out with the same orientation.

What I am doing wrong ? Is there a trick to reinstallation? Any tips ?

Thank you in advance, appreciate your help.

Sam

You'll have to turn the part that fits into the Camshaft until it plops in place.

If its 180 degrees out, it will not be flush with the head/valve cover (it will have 1/4 to 1/2 inch gap)

For other people reading this: the distributor drive has a slot that is slightly off-center. If you don't look carefully you might think it's symmetrical and install the rotor a half turn off.
