I am stuck at removing front rotors

I am stuck at removing my front rotors. I never replaced it, just replaced the pads once. (82K miles).
In this post Brake Job Totural, I read, do not remove the pin/axle nut to remove the rotor. There should be two screws that holds the pad rest and after removing that the rotor should slide out. All screws are removed, the rotor is still stuck. I see two threaded holes on the rotor, so in another post someone suggested to use a screw to remove it. So just thread the screw and the rotor should come out (or use a hammer to hammer it out)? I don't see any gap at the tip of the screw driver, it looks like the rotor is welded at the tip of the screw driver location.

My new rotor doesn't have that protruding round ring, just in front of the screw driver tip (just like in this pic, copied from another post). Did I get a wrong part?

First time messing with the rotors, so please excuse the dump question.

Thanks
John

yea the two threaded holes are for a nut (im not sure what size) just thread it on there and use a socket wrench and tighten it down back and forth on both sizes and the rotor will pop and you can remove it my brembo blanks didn't have that so now they just slide off after i take the break parts off

hope that helps

Thread the bolt through those small holes on the rotor. I think I used the 12mm bolt that attaches the abs bracket to the strut. Just use a ratchet to ratchet the bolt and it will pop right off.

The above picture is from a DIY that I posted, and it is for the rear brakes, not the front ones. For the front ones, once you remove the caliper, and the brake pads from the front, the rotors should come right off. They are probably stuck on with rust, crud, etc. Take a 2x4 or a block of wood, put it against the inside of the rotor and bang it with a hammer. The rotor will come loose.

If it doesn't bang it with a bigger hammer.

just take a damn rubber mallet and hit it from the back, it will come right off
same about rear wheels, they like to rust/stick the same way as your front rotors

Thanks everyone, going to wack the hell out of the rotors now.
I thought the rotor should come of with little bit of wiggling, but that sob is stuck. I tried with my screw driver (didn't want to put any unnecessary force at first) to yank it off, but it didn't budge. Thought I will post before mucking with it

Appreciate all the replys to this problem.

Yeah normally it should be already loose after caliper bracket is unbolted. I guess all depends on how often you do that

A BFH always takes care of problems. In the future a bit of anti seize will prevent this from happening again.

I used a hammer to get my rotors off. It was a 10lb sledge hammer. I busted the rotor.

Ended up having to run two bolts into the rotor to get it off. the bolts in the rotor are By far that is the easiest way to remove stuck on rotors, especially when the BFH doesnt do the job! Just wrap the hub with Anti-seize before installing the new rotors!

^wow, that rotor looks like a piece of garbage, all rusted through ... so it separated when you smashed it? I can imagine the annoyance with removal of "remains" ...

Yeah, that was on the 1996 Camry I bought awhile ago.. It had been sitting for 5 or 6 months, so naturally it rusted

All 4 corners needed replaced, and both front rotors broke with a hammer. lol

right, rusting is terrible when cars are sitting for several months, especially in North East ... my rotors get surface rust even after the car stands for 2-3 days!

wife's car rotors have rusted on the edges, so when turning them in a shop they had to make one of them (front) real thin to gt rid off of the rust. no good for turning anymore, next time I will have to replace them, preferrably when changing pads next time on her car.

Yeah its crazy how fast these rotors rust. Thats why its a good idea to get rotors with a Zinc coating. They take a lot longer to rust!

agreed. I also found that Cryo treated rotors might stand longer against elements and wear (painted edges and center also help prevent rusting), however that treatment makes them quite expensive... maybe I will try such thing (slotted cryo maybe?) on V6 ... her car will get plain zinc coated ones
