1 or 2 Coolant Temp Sensors

I remember on another Toyota forum I was on for Land Cruisers they said Toyota has two different Coolant Temp Sensors. On for the gauge and one for the computer. Is that true with the camry's? The report on the LC Forum was if you started getting bad MPG it could be the Coolant Temp Sensors to the computer making the motor run rich. Will I went from 30 mpg summer, to 27 mpg winter to now 25 mpg in the last 3 or 4 weeks. The only other thing I did is replace my old purolator air filter with a new wix air filter.

Winter mileage will be lower. Due to temp, and due to ethanol added. And then people use remote starters, giving zero mpg. Or just idle more to warm up the car.

Yes I know but without changing any other habits I've lost another 2 mpg in the winter. On top of the normal 3 mpg I normally lose.

You can test the sensors with heating water, a thermometer and ohm meter against specs. There should be a graph with temp versus resistance readings.

yup, guys above are right. here is the graph all camry based cars follow on ECT "sensors" (all of them):

around 200-230 ohm at fully warmed idle (or right after shut down) is OK and that's where it's supposed to sit. however to be honest you may need to remove that sensor and test it out throughout a full range while in a hot bath. it may have dead spots (mine did, both on V6 and i4).

my Winter MPG always suck big times, both because of longer warm up and more accessories on (lights, heating, sometimes wipers, etc.) and then the darned ethanol additive (10% I think it is). on top of that I travel less further (I get lazy in Winter) and most of driving is a bad type of short distance city driving and around here traffic, hills and stop lights/signs are a real MPG killer.

Hoping I can spend $15 or $25 vs $65+ that the dealer wants so.... Does any of the 3 that www.napaonline.com sells match Toyotas?
