3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My dad, grandma and I went out to my uncle's house on the 4th and I got surprised with a 1998 Camry. They all pitched in to get it as a early graduation present. It is my first "car". It is a little rough but I like it.
It is green, auto, I4 and has 91xxxx miles.
I have fixed the rear bumper, washed and waxed it, power-balled the headlights, fixed the center console, and de-greased the engine bay.
It needs 2 new tires, smog, insurance and registration.
I'm going to get it smoged and build a sub box for a 10" I have and replace all the speakers and head unit sometime this week.
Future things for it are coilovers, broadway mirror, LEDs everywhere inside, and HIDs 4500k hi/lo on a 35watt relay.
Good luck man! Are you going to retro fit your headlights with proper HID projectors? Please do. Also, you should get your LEDs from superbrightleds.com. Most eBay LEDs are really cheap and usually don't last long.

Yeah I'm going to try and retro fit them. I can get some TL projectors pretty cheap but I still have to do some research on retro fitting them. And i had a friend recommend that site. I just want the dome light, and dash lights.
If you're retrofitting for the first time, I recommend getting a pair of Morimoto Mini H1 projectors from hid planet. They're basically plug and play projectors and from the pictures and videos describing them, they're pretty good. They're a little over $100 for the pair and I'm going to get them within the next month.

The Morimoto's are drop in's, meaning there's no cutting required and you can go back to stock if you want to. I have them and I'm content. But I think you'd need to either sand down the housing or get new ones with a clear lens since you have the fluted ones.
Nice looking camry man, How does the interior look ?
The interior looks fine i would give it a 6. some of the trim is broke and the carpet has some stains. I just noticed tonight that there is no gear indicator on the cluster and the gear indicators next to the shifter don't light up. One of the first things I did was check all the fuses and they all worked and none were missing. Does anybody else have gear indicators on there cluster.

Thanks I will save up for a pair of those and do a little more research.
What do you mean fluted ones?
I left the camera I used today in my buddies car. so all the work I did today will be posted tomorrow or the next day
but I did just go get a role of garage door trim. home depot lip
The gen4's don't have a clear lens like on the gen4.5 (see mine), so you would probably need to replace the housing with an aftermarket one if you were to do a retrofit.
Regarding the gauge cluster without the gear indicator, it sounds like it's a cluster from a manual transmission. Mine has the lights and they all function lol.

That's what I started to think. and for the airbag light always on it is because of an accident. the first time I opened the hood i noticed the radiator support was different. so they did not reset the airbag light. The steering wheel also has a big chunk taken out of it. Pics tomorrow.
Alright I got my camera back a couple of days ago and I could not view any pictures. I took it a nelson photo and they had to format the SD card and reset all the camera settings.
so I re-took some pics
I got it smogged, insured and in my name.
Fixed the rear bumper and it looks better than when I got it. my uncle told me hae found a website that has the bumper cover for like $30 unpainted.
Last night I got my home depot lip on and it looks OK :/
I have also been slowly painting the wheels black. I will keep the hubcaps on the wheels until I get rims. I noticed almost every single wheel stud were cross-threaded. So far I have only done the rears.
Also here is the interior
I need a new steering wheel. I might take one off a newer Camry. (depends on price)
I also ordered a fuel door spring from Napa because I currently don't have one.

I did a VIN look up and my car came auto and the other day i used the overdrive and the overdrive light came on IDK but it is the least of my worries right now hahaha
