3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Today I was hit by a 2007 Chevy Tahoe...I was going straight, the lady in the Tahoe was with her kid and was not paying attention. She was pulling out of a drive thru and hit me on the right. Luckily she was rather nice and apologized and gave me all the insurance information. No police was involved. My car is still driveable, but the rear door area is heavily dented and scratched. The other party is taking full responsibility (hopefully...for failing to yield right of way...)I'm still waiting for call from the insurance adjuster to see how much they are going to pay for this..
That's pretty gnarly, might have a small amount of frame rail damage, but at least it's more or less localized to one point. A new door, some metal work and some paint and you're good to go!
To me it looks like you will need to weld on a new quarter panel, and get a new door and repaint a large section of the car. The quarter Lip is too crunched up to be able to pull it and fix it.
yeah, I'd second what guys above are saying... such collision damage are pretty normal to my area, in fact I am driving with a scratched and slightly bent rear quarter panel on my V6 and wife's beater was dinged and hit from every side (now fixed more or less, no crazy repairs though)...

The adjuster is coming over today, i'm waiting to see how much they are willing to offer. The women's insurance got a bad reputation for not paying up claims..so i'm hoping this goes smoothly...
id guess 3x that amount.
depending on the value of that car, it very well may be a total.
.
Could be close to 3500$. I got side swiped by a bus in mine and they totaled me out.
My body shop said they would get it back to new for $2500 and that was with a $2500 discount.
My car is below, runs perfect... looks great!
You do need a door, and that rear quarter is screwed up.

Inspector just left, he gave a rough estimate of about $2500..but the amount of insurance will pay is still in the air..gotta wait for their call. I'll go to a body shop later and let them run an estimate.
KBB says this car is valued at about $6800... 2001 model year, 111k miles, gallery edition, power seats. I don't think they will total it if the cost is at $2500ish. Not to mention I can't really buy any good cars with $6800...a 2007 model year camry with ~90k miles is about $11k...if i'm paying for around 11k, i might as well just go for a 2002+ lexus ES with ~110k miles..

that was their estimator?
that sounds REALLY low.
yeh, i agree. take it in to a shop of your choice. i expect it will be much higher than that.

Yes that's very low... who are you with?
My mom has a 2001 Gallery Edition .. Two tone gray, leather interior etc.
I'll have it in a year or two.. 39K mi.
Tell them that is two low, get 3 estimates and get them high.
That's BS .. us Gallery people have to stick together.

Well.i'm with Allstate, but my insurance was not involved since it was the other driver's fault. The other driver had Pronto, which is a Mexican insurance company(works with Texas only in US, and entire Mexico)...known for not paying claims and go as low as possible on their claims...so yea..= = not the best situation...
If they try to total the car, I won't settle for anything less than 7k..the car was always garage kept, I constantly waxed it, and the tires are pretty new too. I'll just see how it plays out. Worst case scenario, if they total it, i'm just going to pay 2-4k more and get a 2002+ Lexus ES..but reading all the reviews online, its really somewhat making me worried...and there's no rental atm since the car was drivable, so i'm forced to drive her around in this condition...

Don't fk around, get treatment and an attorney if that's the way it is.
Screw them!

that was a mistake. you for sure need to call your insurance company. they need to be involved. thats what you pay them for, they will fight for you.
because, if something happens, and the other insurance decides not to pay, who will fight them?
