4th Generation Please help - No Back up Lights 1997 Camry

Hello,
I have a 1997 Camry V-6 . When headlights are on. the yellow dash light comes on indicating no back-up lights. Back up lights will not work .
When headlights are OFF, they work, but very dim and the dash light indicator remains off.
I have inspected the bulbs and wiring harness in the trunk. They both look as new any ideas?

The car has 150,000 Kilometers and is in good condition . I have also added ES300 rims.

I discovered the problem today. A typical broken wire in the wiring loom in the trunk near the drivers side hinge. It was the black and white wire. The break was difficult to locate , it was near the upper most part of the larger loom.
I went to a mechanic who informed me I should buy a PNP switch at $370.00 his cost plus install... really not his fault , he just read the trouble code fix for code 1780 .
