How to replace temperature switch assy on 92 Camry

On my 92 Camry, the round HVAC temperature switch seems to have broken something inside. I have no heat and am assuming the cable that attaches in there to switch the heater core valve has broken. I found another switch at a local yard for $20. What all is involved with replacing this switch mechanism? Thanks in advance.

Edit - oops. Should say assy in the title.....

Before you tear into the controls, check that the cable hasn't detached from the valve. It's mounted in the engine compartment on the firewall. Pretty much opposite the gas pedal. There'll be a couple of 1 inch diameter coolant lines attached to it.

I know the control is broken as the knob has is either very rough or has no resistance. The cable is attached to the valve.

Ah, OK. Just trying to save you from working on the wrong end. Here's a DIY thread for changing the light bulbs in the climate control module. It'll show you how to get it out so you can check/fix what's wrong.

Thanks for the link, but does this apply for a 92? Mine has a mechanical type switch in it instead of electric.

The controls in that DIY look exactly like my '92, so pretty sure yours is the same. And I know my temperature knob is mechanical, because the cable disconnected itself at the valve last week. If you had an XLE, they'd be different; electric I believe.
