4th Generation weird noises when gear in reverse

Hey guys I have a 99 camry I4 le, I've noticed for a long time that after i put my car in reverse and use the gas to back up quickly its kinda like a metallic crunching noise. im just shy of 130k and the tranny doesn't slip at all and everything is good I was just wondering if thats normal? if i back up my brothers 05 acura tsx its a whining noise? any thoughts? I was thinking thats normal mainly because its not like ive been driving fast and then randomly shifted into R w/o stopping (as I would imagine would kill the tranny)

any thoughts would be appreciated

oh and just to reiterate if I just backup out of a parking spot or something just using the brake and not using the gas it doesn't do it and goes fine. its when i use the gas like to backup quick if traffic is coming that it does it

Sounds like from what you describe that your car either has old or low auto trans fluid. I would recommend doing an ATF change right away so that it does not wear down the transmission. When gears sound crunchy and grindy, it's never good.

Well, avoid pressing the gas hard when reversing.

When reversing, you're drivetrain shifts and rocks. Any loose or questionable motor mounts will cause noise.

When reversing, all your brakes 'shift'. Then, they'll shift again when going forward.

When reversing, all your inner/outer cv's will also switch load direction and make noise. Any cv leaks or torn/missing boots is an issue. If original, I'd be gentle with them.

As with any transmission, fresh fluid in the transmission and its differential could help mask some wear related noises. Change it out.

Reverse, like low, should also compression brake which adds some noise versus freewheeling. See how it sounds like in low-1st gear.

Well that would explain after I go backwards and use the brake I would here a metallic clank from the front wheel, the local parts guy at the dealership said it might be the slider pins. I finally figured out how to take the boots off thanks to somebody who explained it in another thread I started and messed around with another caliper bracket. I have a set if slider pins for both sides as well as bushings and the rubber boots on Gary which said he should be order them later today. As far as the tranny fluid I'd have to check but I know for sure the differential fluid was changed like 5 days or so before Christmas last year. From the look of it, it had never been changed

Edit: I just looked I changed the differential fluid on 12/17/11 at 120,720, I'm sitting in the car right now and I'm at 129,554, let me do the video

Well I stand by the synchros being bad, but its hard to tell without physically seeing and hearing it.
As for your bro's car, sounds like his TO bearing is done for.

I may have missed it but just for the sake of clarity do you have an automatic or standard transmission. I ask because I see discussions of both trans fluid and synchronizer rings??

Thanks.

Hmm, don't think the auto has those.
Can't think of what else that sound can be.
